The Representative Team of SLS Won the Gold Medal of the 2016 IGEM Competition

The School of Life Sciences sent a team to the United States to participate in the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) organized by MIT from October 27 to 31, 2016. The iGEM team stands out from more than 300 teams in the world. The team won a Gold Medal in the GIANT JAMBOREE, got the Best Environment Project, and received four nominations in the Best Model, Best New Basic Part, Best New Composite Part and Best Part Collection.

It was the second time that the School of Life Sciences had supervised a team at the iGEM competition.

The team has been fighting for 9 months, during which period they faced with many difficulties. Although facing the extremely unfavorable situation, the team got excellent experimental results and made good performance and finally stood out in the "graduate group".

IGEM is sponsored annually by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) founded in 2005, and is the highest international academic competition in the field of Synthetic Biology. The team includes representatives from Harvard University, Yale University, Oxford University, Cambridge University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and other world’s top universities.
